Hyundai spent a lot of time building up their future
N
brand. Now my question is, if they are spinning off Genesis, what will the Genesis version be called? Will Kia get a performance arm?
Even Chrysler only uses SRT for Dodge now, which forced Jeep to start up Trackhawk and the Chrysler cars and Ram trucks to simply go without a performance arm. Heck, even Infiniti has IPL instead of Nismo. Any thoughts on whether the N brand will stay Hyundai or go Genesis?

N will stay with Hyundai. I’m not sure there’s any reason for Genesis to pick up a performance arm, especially considering their target market. Cost to benefit ratio would be pretty low.

I don’t know about that. I do know one thing though; the tagline for this new sub-brand better not be ‘Hyundais With Attitude’, because if it is, somebody at Hyundai marketing is getting a GDI 2.0L out of an Elantra dropped on his cranium.

Unless they’re wanting to compete with AMG and M.

That’s my point. I severely doubt that AMG/M-power buyers are in Genesis’ target demographic. The brand sits differently, concentrating on taking a slice of the luxury and refinement market rather than the performance market.

I know Hyundai and gang make very competitive cars now, but a performance arm will likely be hobbled by its very own culture.
Hyundai is not a trendsetter, nor is it a bastion of individuality and self-confidence. It follows trends that the board and the marketing department think will sell well. And that is perfectly fine as I would totally rock a Genesis sedan to commute with.
I may be wrong, but my vision for the N brand is some slight power rating upgrades (this is easy with turbo engines), stiffer springs (remember, Hyundai has yet to sell a genuine “sports” car) and a body kit. And badges. Lots and lots of badges.

Will that mean that they’ll discontinue the brand and replace it with Phil Collins?

Very true. Though there are the S6x AMG cars. I do see what you’re saying though. At least get established in the market then possibly go after a luxo-performance car down the line if they feel the need to do so.
